Why did the customer contact us?
The homeowner requested an inspection of their 1900s home with rock foundation walls to address several crawlspace concerns. We assessed the area for any signs of fungal or mold growth, as well as potential wood structural issues. The customer was aware that a new vapor barrier was needed and was also concerned about temperature fluctuations specifically, cold air entering the crawlspace during winter and warm air during summer. They asked for recommendations to improve and “tighten up” the space, including potential shoring or reinforcement where needed. Based on the condition and age of the home, we would recommend considering a full encapsulation with insulation to enhance energy efficiency, control moisture, and improve overall crawlspace performance.
Solutions provided:
Following the homeowner’s request for inspection due to lack of insulation and potential fungal growth in the crawlspace, a full remediation and moisture control plan was recommended and completed. The work included a comprehensive fungal cleaning throughout the crawlspace, installation of 2 inches of insulation along all perimeter walls, and full encapsulation to prevent ground moisture and vapor intrusion. All recommended work has been completed as proposed, and the crawlspace is now properly insulated, remediated for fungal presence, and protected through encapsulation to ensure long-term moisture control and improved environmental conditions beneath the home.
